Ep 7: Upcoming Book-to-Movie Adaptations

Grab some popcorn! In this episode, Katie and Sarah are discussing book-to-movie adaptations coming out in 2018 and 2019. Because of the gap in between recording and publishing of episodes, several of these movies have already come and gone from movie theaters, but those are already out on DVD.

Next episode, we’ll be discussing our favorite book-to-movie adaptations.

Episodes are released the first weekend of the month.

Ep 6: Book Review: I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak

This month, Katie and Sarah are discussing Sarah’s favorite book by her favorite author, I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak. Spoilers for the novel are from 7:19 to 26:06.

Note: This book includes a scene where the main character witnesses a sexual assault. The scene is not graphic or gratuitous, and we mention it in passing in the podcast because it is relevant to the plot, but if you may be triggered by this, you might want to skip this episode.

Another hiatus, but Long Distance Lit is back!

This month, Katie and Sarah are discussing The Raven and the Reindeer by T. Kingfisher, a novella retelling of the The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Anderson. They also talk about the original Snow Queen fairytale as well as the novella’s parallels to a certain Disney film (though not the one you’d expect).

Ep 4: Childhood Favorites #2: Katie and The Bailey School Kids

It’s been an long and unexpected hiatus, but Long Distance Lit is back! This episode is the second part of our two-part special, where Sarah and I each discuss the childhood book series that made us lifelong bookworms.

This month, Katie will be talking about her love (and shame) of the series The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids by Marcia T. Jones and Debbie Dadey, along with her fondness for emo teens, her distaste for jerk redheaded third graders, and inarguably the best Halloween costume ever. These books are pretty formulaic and don’t have overarching plot lines, so feel free to listen along whether or not you’ve read the books.

This month, Sarah will be sharing her thoughts on the series Diadem by John Peel, as well as sarcastic characters, cover art changes, and unicorns. There won’t be any discussion of major spoilers, so feel free to listen along whether or not you’ve read the books.

Ep 2: Book Review – Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

It’s our first official book review! This month, Katie and Sarah discuss the book Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor (and the South Korean film Old Boy for a hot minute despite it having absolutely no similarities to the plot of this book). Mild spoilers for the book start at 7:00 and go through the end of the episode, and major spoilers for the film Old Boy are from 9:52 to 12:37.
